Fort Lauderdale Airport (FLL) Smoking Areas & Rules 2026

The smoke-free guidelines at Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) prohibits all smoking within the terminals. Smoke-free areas have been created outside of each terminal to provide a place for smokers to stand when waiting for their Allegiant Air flight. It also protects non-smokers from passive smoke. Each terminal has designated outdoor smoking areas located at the curb by the arrivals level of each terminal. Also, ashtrays are provided in the allotted outdoor smoking areas to help maintain a clean environment and allow safe disposal. They made the rules to ensure a healthy & comfortable environment for all guests.

Indoor Smoking Regulations

FLL has indoor non-smoking regulations at all of its terminals. This rule is fully compatible with Florida’s Clean Indoor Air Act and Broward County-wide statutes.

• In every enclosed public area of the airport, there is a complete prohibition on any kind of smoking (cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and/or vaping).
• When referring to smoking, there is a complete ban in terms of electronic devices.
• Therefore, from the moment you walk into any of the terminals, there are no designated indoor smoking lounge Fort Lauderdale Airport, smoking rooms, or smoking areas.
• Every interior space at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is smoke-free. Hence, there is not only complete compliance with state laws in terms of smoking being prohibited in nearly all indoor public areas. But also complete compliance with the local ordinances that prohibit smoking anywhere indoors within a public airport terminal.
• Violators of the indoor smoking regulation at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will face a fine, removal from the property, and/or other/all enforcement actions taken by airport security.
• All smokers must leave the terminal to smoke, and after smoking, return through the TSA screening checkpoint for any connections. There are absolutely no exceptions in reference to smoking/listed above.

FLL’s Designated Outdoor Smoking Locations

FLL has established area(s) outside of each Terminal designated for smokers to use. Smoking is prohibited indoors at any time and includes both vapes and e-cigarettes as defined by Florida law.

• They permit smoking only in the allotted outdoor areas of the airport, located outside before TSA screening. There are no indoor or post-security locations for smokers to go inside the airport.
• All designated smoking locations at the airport are landside near the airport curbs.
• Each of the four terminals has its designated smoking area located outside the terminal. These terminal numbers are 1, 2, 3 & 4.
• The smoking area at Terminal 1 is on the lower level (Arrivals) outside the terminal, near the curb, but it is a distance from the terminal’s doors.
• The smoking area at Terminal 2 is on the ground level, under the baggage claim area, and is located a safe distance from the terminal’s doors.
• The smoking area at Terminal 3 is on the Arrivals level, away from the main exit doors to minimize exposure to secondhand smoke.
• The smoking area at Terminal 4 is at the curb for Arrivals and is away from the terminal doors to follow the non-smoking order.

Pre-Security vs. Post-Security Access

There are clear limitations on smoking access at FLL Airport, both pre-security and post-security. 

• All designated smoking areas are pre-security, located outside of the terminals. 
• Smoking facilities are not available post-security (airside) in any concourse, gate, or indoor area of the airport. 
• There is no smoking allowed indoors at any airport at FLL, which includes terminals, concourses, restrooms, lounges (if you can smoke there), and restaurants. 
• Each Terminal has outdoor smoking areas located at the Curbside of the Arrival Areas. 
• Each of these smoking areas is located at least 20-25 feet from entry and exit doors and from any ventilation intake areas. 
• The state of Florida has rules regarding smoking locations at public airports. 
• Outdoor smoking zones have ashtrays so people can properly dispose of their cigarettes & avoid littering the area. 
• For departing or arriving passengers who need to smoke before entering security, it is easy to find a designated smoking area. 
• If connecting passengers need to smoke, they must exit the secure area to use the outdoor smoking area in FLL before re-entering the secure area and returning to their gate. 
• Re-entering the secure area to connect to a flight can take a long time, especially during peak times; therefore, you should plan to have plenty of time for your connections.
